Portland Pride 2008!

The weather was perfect, the Drag Queens were divine. Pride was felt throughout our fair city–without a protester in sight!

My mom came along for her first Pride Experience–she now wants to join PFLAG so she can carry a sign that says, “I Love My Lesbian Daughter.” Finally after all of these years I have accomplished something that she can be proud of.

We hung out with good friends, listened to music, enjoyed the sun and overall had a perfect day in every way.

To see photos of topless women, men in assless chaps, and more Drag Queens than you can shake a stick at, see Flickr.

Keep Pride Alive Portland, all year long!

  1. melissa lion Said,

Wow, it was a big weekend in Portland. This and pedalpalooza or whatever and Father’s Day and it was sunny! I celebrated all of this by going to the knitting store. On my bike. As part of a parade. Of two.

    Cool pics!

    yay how gay!

That does look like a fun event. Glad the weather was sunny!

  4. Sister Mona Said,

The day was absolutely beautiful. The people were all having a great time.

btw…I LOVE that picture you took of me. As you can see, I was feeling the energy from the folks lined along the parade route. I’m already looking forward to next year!

  5. Wendy Said,

It was a great Pride weekend in Portland! Beautiful weather, beautiful sights, love and freedom in the air! We loved it!! :-D

  6. Jim Thomsen Said,

Most of my gay and lesbian friends find Pride parades to be embarrassing now. They say that gay people in general have assimilated enough into society as equals that making a garish display of how they’re different seems almost like a setback. I guess I see it as a quaint, somewhat silly throwback to the 1970s, but nothing of particular relevance to the gays and lesbians of today that I know. Most would say they’re secure enough in their identity that making an issue of it seems entirely beside the point.

But then again, I guess some people love it and live for it. Celebrate the differences, I say. Even those WITHIN the gay and lesbian community.
