Baby it’s damn cold outside
Posted under Being RSG, DD's by Recovering Straight GirlNot in this picture however. I’m desperately trying to remember what the warm weather and the sunshine feels like; it’s been a rude, rude welcome home to the NW this week.
I know we are spoiled here in the NW, we don’t have the cold, cold, weather that y’all have in Chicago, or New York, or Boston. I know I probably sound like a wimp when I tell you that it is so damn cold here right now I can hardly stand it.
It is 33 degrees outside.
Grey.
Damp.
Overcast.
Did I mention cold?
Typically I don’t even wear a winter coat at this time of the year, usually a fleece or sweatshirt will suffice. Not today. Today I have a coat, (and I would have gloves if I could find them.)
Today I ventured the long trip up the hill to Oregon Health Science University for an appointment with a geneticist to evaluation DD#3. She has some serious dental issues and we had her seen by the doctor to determine if in fact she has a genetic disorder called Ectodermal Dysplasia. She does. Although she has a form of it that doesn’t quite fit into any of the larger forms. (Read: they don’t know wtf she has,) and there is nothing that can be done about it perse. It’s just good information to have and her information will be used to educate others about this genetic disorder.
Now I’m off to switch the laundry and go to Costco. I hope all the crazy shoppers are gone and I can buy my coffee and toilet paper in peace.
Ciao.

It’s doing some cold and nasty shit here too. I say we all take off for Mexico for the duration of the winter!
Re: the ectodermal dysplasia: Is it only her teeth that are effected or are her nails, hair etc. involved too? I guess it’s good to know what’s going on, even if you can’t do anything about it.
Laundry? You go girl! I need to go do more of that myself.
33 is cold to me! At that temp I’m bundled up in layers, down coat, mittens, etc…
Same question as Lisa about DD#3.
Hey there pretty ladies!
We decided to check your website out tonight, we are both loving it! We had such a wonderful trip and as I think you said in one of your blogs, Olivia trips are def the only way we will vacation from now on.
We enjoyed meeting and hanging out with both of you, especially at the black jack table haha, “cheater card girl”! I have some pics that I would like to send you from the Olivia Olympics and some from various other evenings. So let me know what is the best e-mail address to get those to you. I hope your post vacation blues are getting better, we are working on getting back to “real” life again ourselves.
have a good one,
JB & Jen from NC
ooo look! vacation friends are commenting.
how cool is that.
Oh my, I want to be in that pool!
Re-entry is soooo hard, I feel for ya.
I’m sure you are somewhat relieved to have a diagnosis about your daughter, it’s still hard to hear anything like that about your child. Best of luck.
Lisa and Sassy: Her condition seems to mostly affect her teeth (malformation of the teeth, missing teeth, and no enamel.) She also has thin nails. The doctor doesn’t seem to think that anything else will creep up in the future nor is he concerned at this point about her future offspring. He says that it is too early to do any further testing to isolate the gene, but she will be “studied” for a while.
JB and Jen: Yeah, two of my favorite vacation friends! So glad you stopped by. And for the record, I did NOT cheat at blackjack. But I know someone who DID!!!!
Weese: I highly recommend you and the missus go on an Olivia trip, you will not regret it!
Reelgal: Yes, it is always hard to know that something is not quite perfect about your kid, but I can tell you after being in the Pediatric Genetic Counseling office for a short time, I am grateful it is nothing more serious.
Glad to hear that overall DD#3 is fine! Cosmic coincidence that a friend with E.D. just had her teeth fixed this week (now that she is an adult and she has stopped growing)! New big top teeth, with bottom teeth to follow…besides that a little weakness in her hands…she has no difficulties and is an extraordinay dancer!
I clicked on the link to the ectodermal thing, and they keep referring to it as “ED” You can imagine where my maturity level took this. But like JMc said, if it’s just teeth, that can probably be dealt with as an adult. Good luck.
Nothing sucks more than cold weather! nothing…
Glad you had a great vacation (for the most part) and that D3 is okay. I know that is scary.
I share your weather woes… The vast amount of rain was almost snow… Which just means it is dreary AND cold.
For comparison, come live on the shores of Lake Michigan for a while, anytime between now and March. Although, actually, I think we were warmer than you were today. Go figger.
This cold weather is, well, cold. Thank you for the refreshing photo of the pool. We need to remember times like that when it’s fricking cold! I’m glad to hear there’s a diagnosis, I think. At least you know now, yes? Sigh. Life is never simple. Because then it would be boring.
Licks from Wink.
33 is freakin cold.
Dammit on DD#3.
I heart you.
