Hot Love in the Summertime
Posted under Summer by Recovering Straight GirlAhhh. Summer arrived in the Northwest and it has been absolutely glorious. I’ve been doing projects around the house and last weekend I took fourteen teenage girls camping. I have not yet recovered. Yesterday I bought firewood and a miter saw on Craigslist and I’m going to build a firewood storage area on my side yard. Cher asked if she could see my “plans” before I started building it. I didn’t know what she meant. Still don’t.
Last night I took Halsey to see “Eclipse” and it didn’t suck except for the part where the movie theatre must turn the air conditioning off after midnight because I felt as though I could not breathe. Mikayla has been camp counseling this week, which is different from what Halsey told the waitress at a restaurant we where at who asked where Mikayla was. “She’s at Counseling Camp,” she told her. It kind of made it sound as though I’d shipped her off to a sanitarium which wouldn’t make any sense since I’m the one who should probably be shipped off there.
We’re taking the girls camping this weekend for the fourth and Cher and I are going again next weekend with her team so I have a lot of planning ahead. I would like to say that I’ll be sitting in my loungey chair reading magazines but I don’t want to set myself up for any disappointment since one never knows what may happen when one is camping.
Other than the camping, I see a lot of building projects in my future. And spray paint. I adore spray paint and I have discovered that it now comes in a wide array of beautiful colors fit for painting just about anything. I have also discovered power washing and have been power washing everything in sight (and then sometimes spray painting it.) Did you know you can spray paint plastic? Who knew?
I have also discovered the best reality show on television, The Fabulous Beekman Boys. Watch it. You’ll laugh so hard you will cry. I asked Cher if we could buy a small farm but she doesn’t want to hear about it. Imagine how many things I could build and spray paint if I had a small farm . . .
I’ve been contemplating one of those spray painting set ups that sucks the paint out of the can, there are a few walls in this house that could do with a new colour.
“Plans.” What are these “plans” of which she speaks? My answer would be: “I plan to build a firewood area. Those are my plans.” As for the spray paint, my city is contemplating a law that would require anyone younger than 18 have an adult present when he/she buys spray paint. (We’re having problems with graffiti.) Maybe they should administer a spray paint permit, similar to a driving permit, for juveniles?
I just started gardening and watching the Beekman Boys around the same time. My GF and I are so much like them (I will admit to be Brent). It’s ridiculous. They are utterly and totally fabulous and I cannot wait until they can have their own wedding there at the Beekman Mansion (Equality for ALL). I just may send them a wedding gift.
Thatsalottacamping. Hope you do get to put your feet up and read some…
Must watch new show. Thanks for the recommendation!
You are adorable, and Cher is smart. Okay you’re smart too but she gotcha on this firewood area plans thing. Firewood near the house invites termites into your home. They will taste the firewood and then move on to your house, or worse, they will might in the firewood when you buy it. If you build a rack to keep it up off the ground, and spray the wood and the ground under it with bug killer, that can help, but they you’re buring bug killer and breathing it. I buy firewood a little at a time and burn it all up. My solution is expensive and a pain inna butt.
Wow, sounds like camping overload. I hope you are having fun with all of those outdoor activities.
I don’t have Planet Green (damn Cablevision!) so I can’t watch Beekman, but I loved Josh Kilmer-Purcell’s “I am Not Myself These Days,” his memoir about life as a drag queen, as well as his 80s-themed novel “Candy Everyone Wants.” Hopefully, they’ll release Beekman on DVD. Sounds like your summer’s great.
